About the Event
The Festival of Gardening (FOG) is the Hill City Master Gardeners’ annual plant sale and will feature over 3,000 plants, all started from seed or carefully divided and grown by Master Gardeners. Shoppers can choose from a wide selection of high-quality, locally grown plants, including:
Tomatoes
Vegetables
Herbs
Native plants
Vines and groundcovers
Trees and shrubs
Perennials
Annuals
Houseplants and tropicals
Container gardens
Garden décor items will be offered as well. Whether you’re planting your first tomato, looking to fill in your garden beds with sought-after perennials and natives, or planning a culinary herb garden, the Festival of Gardening offers something for gardeners of all experience levels.
News & Advance columnist and former Extension agent Don Davis will be available at the Information Desk again this year to answer any gardening questions. In addition, Master Gardeners will be staffing the plant sales area and can answer questions or make recommendations.
The sale is the Hill City Master Gardeners’ only fund-raising event for the year, and proceeds support our local gardening education and community outreach programs throughout the Lynchburg area. Their gardens at the Davis Instructional Garden (DIG), Jubilee Family Center, Boys & Girls Club, Compost Education Center at Old City Cemetery, DePaul Community Resources, Poplar Forest, and Amherst Depot are all supported by the funds raised at FOG, as are their school programs and other educational programs.
Gardeners are encouraged to arrive early for the best selection. The event will be held rain or shine.
