The Garden Conservancy will premiere a new documentary film, “Earth, I Thank You,” celebrating the life and legacy of Harlem Renaissance poet and civil rights advocate Anne Spencer - and exploring her beloved garden, which lives on as a vibrant cultural landmark.

About the Event
Save the date!! On May 4, the Garden Conservancy will premiere a new documentary film, “Earth, I Thank You,” celebrating the life and legacy of Harlem Renaissance poet and civil rights advocate Anne Spencer - and exploring her beloved garden, which lives on as a vibrant cultural landmark.
The premiere takes place at the Smithsonian’s National Museum of African American History and Culture in Washington, DC, beginning at 4:30pm, with a panel featuring:
Brent Leggs, Executive Director of the African American Cultural Heritage Action Fund at the National Trust for Historic Preservation;
Kevin Young, Andrew W. Mellon Director of the Smithsonian’s National Museum of African American History and Culture;
Shaun Spencer-Hester, Executive Director of the Anne Spencer House and Garden Museum in Lynchburg, VA;
David and Michael Udris, filmmakers;
James Brayton Hall, President & CEO of the Garden Conservancy;
and Dr. Carlyn Ferrari, author, Spencer scholar and Assistant Professor of English at Seattle University.
