The Smithsonian is known for its museums on the National Mall, but significant efforts are happening at the Institution focused on Science, Education, and Conservation. Attendees will learn about the initiatives from across the Smithsonian that are impacting Virginia. The following speakers are planning to participate in the discussion panel:

Andy Mink, Director of the Rural Initiative, Office of the Undersecretary of Education (Moderator)

Emma Marcucci, Director of STARS (Scientists Taking Astronomy to Rural Schools), Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory

Tom Akre, Turtle Conservation Ecology Lab, National Zoo

Brian Mandell, Division Director of Curriculum, Smithsonian Science Education Center

The event is part of a series around the country for the 250th anniversary of America this year - it's free and open to the public.
