A Cultural Reflowering: 
A Juried Exhibition
October 1-31, 2021

 

 

Hillside Garden Club is excited to offer an opportunity for Garden Club of Virginia (GCV) artists to participate in a juried exhibition during the Board of Governors Meeting hosted by Hillside Garden Club in Lynchburg, Virginia. 

Subject matter can include flora, fauna, landscapes, cityscapes, botanicals, still life and photography. 

Artwork is limited to two-dimensional works, working in the following disciplines; 

painting, drawing, printmaking, mixed media and photography. 

Selected artwork will be on display at the Academy Center of the Arts for the month of October.  

Submitted work can be purchased with the artist's option to donate proceeds to the GCV.

ELIGIBILITY

Any member of the Garden Club of Virginia.  All work must be suitably prepared for installation.

All art must have two points of contact – no saw tooth hangers.

The curator reserves the right to deny entry if any work is deemed not suitable for display or too difficult to install.

All work must be original.

 

ENTRY PROCEDURES

Submissions will be juried from digital images submitted by email.  Each image must be identified with corresponding entry number, title, artist’s name, dimensions and medium.  Each image should be easily identifiable as it corresponds to the image number on the entry form and application.  Email images to: tbatt@academycenter.org

A non-refundable entry fee of $25 will be collected at the time of submission which allows for up to three entries. 

To pay the entry fee of $25, the artist must either mail a check payable to: Academy Center of the Arts, 

600 Main Street, Lynchburg, VA 24504 or call Ted Batt at 434-528-3256 x127 with form of credit card payment. 

Entry fees are used to offset necessary expenses involved in making the show possible.

JUDGING

All entries will be chosen by digital image.

If upon delivery, an accepted work is found to have been misrepresented by the image, it may be disqualified.

Awards will be selected after the exhibition is installed.

 

AWARDS

Prizes will be awarded for Best in Show and People’s Choice.

PURCHASES

All works are available for purchase unless designated “Not for Sale” at the time of entry. 

The Academy center of Arts will facilitate sales and charges a 35% commission. 

15% of the sale will be designated to Hillside Garden Club.

The remaining 50% of the sale can be designated to the Garden Club of Virginia or will be provided to the artist.

Works not for sale must have a value for insurance purposes.

In this case, determine a potential sale price and enter 60% of that dollar value.

 

DELIVERY OF ACCEPTED WORK

Entries may be shipped* or hand delivered to the Academy Center of the Arts, 600 Main Street, Lynchburg, VA 24504. 

Shipped entries must be sent in reusable containers (no packing peanuts) with return shipping form and labels enclosed. 

Accepted work will be insured for the duration of the exhibit if the artist has declared an insurance value.

Accepted works are insured by the Academy Center of the Arts, September 24 - November 5, 2021.

*As an alternative to shipping, your accepted entry may be dropped off at the Kent-Valentine House on or before Wednesday, September 22, 2021. A member of the Juried Show Committee will deliver work to Lynchburg for hanging. Suitable wrapping for transport by private car will be greatly appreciated. At the conclusion of the exhibit November 1, 2021 any unsold work from the K-V House pick-up will be returned there. Your work must be picked up within two weeks.

 

AGREEMENT, PHOTO AND REPRODUCTION RIGHTS

Entry in the exhibition constitutes agreement to the conditions set forth in this prospectus.  

The artist grants the Academy Center of the Arts and the Garden Club of Virginia permission

to photograph or digitally reprint any work accepted for publicity or publication.
